You are engaged and you booked your flight to this little piece of paradise called Puerto Rico. You might be an Island resident that said yes to the ring and is finally ready for an engagement session or love story like it’s commonly called in Puerto Rico. You have so many ideas, but you are stressing out because you get nervous in front of the camera or you are a selfie queen/king. Regardless of your case, these tips are for you and will get your started on your Puerto Rico engagement or couples session!
Location
First off, think of location! Don’t stress out about picking a very specific location. First think of the mood you are going for. What elements you would like incorporated into your images. Ask yourself: do I prefer the beach, the mountains, a river, urban aesthethic? This will help you narrow out the vibe of your session and will give your photographer (me 😉) an idea of what you and your loved one like. I can help you with suggestions of cool location ideas or you might even be inspired by this article: https://nilkagissell.com/10-popular-engagement-session-locations-in-puerto-rico/
Remember that beautiful photographs can be taken anywhere.
Think about your outfits
It’s important that you wear clothes that make you feel like yourself. There’s really no need to go all out of your comfort zone. Your couples session is not the time to get that ball gown and tux out of the closet (unless that really represents you). Look to complement each other and choose colors that create synergy with your environment. You can gather inspiration from your favorite clothing brand, Pinterest and even Instagram.
Don’t bring other friends
Or family members… I know how important these people are in your life. However, during your couples session having a family member or a friend can make you shy away from interacting with your loved one. That little spontaneous kiss might not happen if your in-laws are staring at you, don’t you think?
Be affectionate
Don’t forget to give each other some luv! There’s a reason engagement sessions or couples sessions are also know as love stories. We want to feel the love you have for each other translated into beautiful pictures.
Interaction is important
It’s important that I capture you in the most genuine way possible. That’s why interaction is key to a successful couple’s session. Don’t be afraid to play around and not just stand there and look into the lens. I will try my best to make you feel as comfortable as possible in front of the camera even if it’s not “your thing”. But, try to have fun with it and interact with one another.
Don’t let the weather discourage you
Island weather can be unpredictable. The sunniest day can turn into a rainy day. Be prepared and have an open mind. Some of my favorite engagement pictures have happened on rainy days.
