Planning a destination wedding in Puerto Rico is a dream come true for many couples. As a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I know by a fact our beautiful Island can provide the perfect backdrop for any type of wedding. Hiring a photographer can be a confusing experience and you might be a little lost on what things to ask to make sure you are a good fit.
To ensure your special day is beautifully documented, here’s a comprehensive list of questions you need to ask your Puerto Rico wedding photographer and some that you shouldn’t worry too much:
Do Ask Your Puerto Rico Wedding Photographer:
What is your photography style?
Every photographer has a unique style, whether it’s traditional, candid, artistic, or a blend of various styles. Make sure their style matches your preferences.
What packages do you offer, and what is included?
Get a clear understanding of what’s included in each package, such as hours of coverage, the number of photographers, and any additional services like engagement sessions or photo albums.
Can you customize a package to fit our needs and budget?
Flexibility is essential when choosing a wedding photographer. Discuss your budget and specific requirements to see if they can create a tailored package for you.
How many hours of coverage do you recommend for our wedding?
Experienced photographers can provide guidance on the ideal coverage based on your wedding timeline and the moments you want to capture.
How long will it take to receive our edited photos?
Discuss the post-production timeline and delivery method for your wedding photos. This is important for planning your post-wedding activities, like creating an album or sending thank you cards.
Can you provide a contract outlining all the terms and conditions?
A written agreement is essential to protect both you and the photographer. Make sure all services, pricing, and expectations are clearly documented. Read all the agreement!
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Puerto Rico has suffered hurricanes, earthquakes and many power outages and they might cause your wedding to be postponed or even cancelled. And, life can be so unpredictable! It’s essential to know how the photographer handles cancellations in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Can you recommend other wedding vendors in Puerto Rico?
Experienced photographers often have a network of trusted vendors they’ve worked with before, such as wedding planners, videographers, and florists. Having a wedding team that works well together can ensure your dream wedding is as perfect as you envisioned. If there’s a recommendation, I can’t stress enough is to make sure your photographer and videographer work similar styles.
Don’t worry too much about asking your Puerto Rico Wedding Photographer:
What equipment do you use?
I get this question a lot. However, don’t worry if your photographer shoots any brand in particular. Check their portfolio and image quality. It’s not about the brand of camera they use, it’s all about experience. If there’s an important question to ask in regards to equipment, it would be if they have backup gear. But rest assure that if you are hiring a professional wedding photographer with years of experience, they will by default have it.
Can you provide a timeline or shot list for our wedding day?
You shouldn’t have to worry about a shot list. Those list that you find online are the bread and butter of any professional wedding photographer. Usually, the timeline is worked with the wedding planner to ensure there’s enough time for everything the client has in mind. But, the exact wedding timeline is worked afterwards and not during the time of hiring your photographer.
Are you familiar with our wedding venue?
A lot of couples are worried when it comes to how familiar a photographer is with a venue. However, sometimes a fresh set of eyes creates the most stunning images. More than worrying if they’ve been to the venue, check their experience as a wedding photographer. A longer trajectory as a wedding photographer prepares you more to successfully capture an event, than knowing a particular venue in advance.
Asking these questions will help you make an informed decision when choosing a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. Remember that the right photographer will not only capture beautiful images but also enhance your overall wedding experience. With their expertise, you can relive your special day for years to come.
