Updated for 2026: Mini photo sessions look a little different than they did in 2018. This post has been refreshed to reflect how I photograph mini sessions today; especially for couples visiting Puerto Rico.

Mini photo sessions are the short-and-sweet version of a full shoot. My mini sessions are 30 minutes long, and while they’re not for everyone, they’re perfect for couples who want beautiful photos without spending hours in front of the camera.
Mini sessions work especially well for couples visiting Puerto Rico, celebrating an engagement, anniversary, or simply wanting photos together while traveling. You get meaningful, professional images and still have plenty of time to enjoy your day. Many of these sessions take place in Old San Juan, one of my favorite locations for intimate couple sessions.
If you’re considering a mini session, here’s how to make the most of it.
What Is a Mini Photo Session (and Who Is It For)?
Mini sessions are designed for couples who:
- Don’t love long photo sessions
- Want natural, candid images
- Are visiting Puerto Rico for a short time
- Want a preview of what a longer couple or wedding session feels like
If you’re planning a proposal or celebrating an engagement, a mini session can be a great option.
A mini session keeps things relaxed, intentional, and fun—without overthinking it.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Mini Photo Session
- Relax and Trust the Process
This matters more than anything else.
The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and present with each other. Stress shows up in photos, so come into your session with the mindset of enjoying the moment, not “getting it right.”
You don’t need to perform or know how to pose. I’ll guide you the entire time and focus on real interaction instead of stiff setups.
This approach is the same one I use for full couple sessions and weddings in Puerto Rico.

- Be Ready and Travel Light
Because mini sessions are short, preparation makes a big difference.
Try to:
- Arrive on time
- Skip large bags or extra items
- Have outfits planned ahead
Too many accessories or outfit changes can slow things down and take time away from actual photos.

- Choose Comfortable Clothing and Shoes
What you wear should feel like you.
Pick outfits that:
- Let you move easily
- Feel comfortable walking and standing
- Don’t distract you once you put them on
If we’re photographing in Old San Juan, comfortable shoes are key. Cobblestone streets are charming—but not heel-friendly.
- Keep the Location Simple
Less is more during a mini session.
Sticking to a small area allows us to spend more time photographing and less time walking. If you have a specific spot in mind, make sure it’s close to the main location your photographer recommends.
Old San Juan works beautifully for this because we can get a lot of variety without going far.

- Have Fun and Be Yourselves
Mini sessions are about connection, not perfection.
Laugh, walk, hold hands, talk to each other. Don’t worry about the camera—I’ll focus on your best angles, natural movement, and genuine moments.
You don’t need to know how to pose. You just need to show up as yourselves.

Are Mini Sessions Right for You?
Mini sessions are a great fit for couples who want:
- Beautiful, professional photos
- A relaxed experience
- A short session that still feels meaningful
If you’re visiting Puerto Rico and want photos that feel natural, fun, and true to you, a mini session might be exactly what you’re looking for.

If you’re visiting Puerto Rico and want a relaxed, meaningful photo experience that still leaves time to enjoy your day, a mini session might be the right fit.
